What is a preferential car?

If a car owned by a company will be used for private purposes more than 10 times a year or more than 100 kilometres, it is classified as a company car according to the Swedish Tax Agency. With a company car, it is perfectly okay to use the car privately. For example, picking up the children from daycare, shopping for food and driving to and from work. Even though there is more freedom with a company car, a driving log is needed.

Risk of being taxed on benefits

In the event of an audit by the Swedish Tax Agency, you risk retroactive benefit taxation for up to 5 years if you cannot prove what is private driving and what is business driving. Avoid a tax hit and use NorthTracker's electronic driving log.

The driving log saves everything for 7 years

You can keep track of all this through NorthTracker's electronic driving log, which automatically saves all journeys for up to 7 years, as required by the Swedish Tax Agency.

Track your driving log via computer or app

NorthTracker's electronic driving log tracks your courtesy car via GPS tracker where you can see via app or computer exactly where the car is, this helps the police to find your car faster in case of theft. The GPS tracker is placed and installed under the steering wheel so you can keep track of the vehicle's location. All NorthTracker devices use the 4G network!

Easy installation of the driving log

Simply push the 4G device into the car's OBDII connector. The connector is located under the car's steering wheel. Then you can start your electronic driving log.

Scan the IMEI number on your device

On one side of your device is an IMEI number, which you should scan into the NorthTracker app.

Now you must enter your registration number and meter reading. You do this in connection with the registration of a new account or new unit

If you have chosen an OBD-II, you insert the device into that socket. It is usually located under the steering wheel.

If you have chosen a Machine Easy, attach the unit to the car battery (positive and negative poles)

The installation is complete. Now you can track your driving log directly in the NorthTracker app or via your computer

The service can also be used for traffic management and logistics. All vehicles are displayed in real time on the same map.

Support for your driving log

Data storage

Secure data transfer through three GSM networks as well as 4G networks throughout Europe. In addition, all your journeys are stored in our backup solution for seven years, as long as required by the Swedish Tax Agency.
The data is stored in secure mountain rooms at a secret Swedish location.

Alarm if the car moves

Basic anti-theft protection is also included in the Digital Driving log. There you can mark a security zone on the map and see where the car is. Should the car leave the security zone/geofence, an alarm is sent via SMS, email and push notification so that you can act in the event of theft and contact the police.

Information required by the Swedish Tax Agency

The Swedish Tax Agency puts it this way: "We recommend that a driving log should contain:
- Metre reading at the beginning of the year
- Meter reading at year-end.

In addition, the driving log should also contain the following information:
- Car registration number
- Current year
- Date and odometer reading at the start and end of the journey
- How many kilometres the employee drives each trip
- Which address the journey started from and ended at
- Purpose of the trip
- Places, companies or contacts visited by the employee (not needed for private travel)
- Notes on drivers and refuelling etc."
